Congratualtions on taking an interest in your health at such a young age [name]. By starting off on the right foot now - you'll avoid many of the most common health problems later in life - and you'll look great longer! This can be a tough time of life. You're working on your career, you might have small kids, your parents are aging, you have a home to take care of - life is just really full. You might have fallen into the trap of grabbing whatever's available at the moment to eat, instead of giving your body the high powered foods it needs to get you through all this chaos with energy to spare. How will you take care of everything else if you're not strong and healthy yourself? Welcome to mid-life. Life is slowing down a bit, and you might find that your metabolism and energy levels are slowing down right along with it. You'll be suprised to find out that you need more nutrients from this point on. Your body doesn't produce as much as it used to. But if you take care of giving your body the nutrients and exercise it needs - it will keep running just fine for a long time to come. Your biggest problem at this stage in the game is finding a way to get as much physical activity as you used to get. That's why you see more people running marathons or taking up recreational hobbies like skydiving and skiing later in life. Besides, you've got more time to do that kind of stuff now. What happens from here on out largely depends on your state of mind. You can choose to sit in front of the TV and wait to die, or you can get up and get active. It might not seem important to make good meals anymore. The truth is - it's more improtant than ever. If you want to stay young and vibrant - you have to eat very right, and get plenty of exercise. Surprising Keys to Losing Weight Here's the top 12 mistakes that are ruining your weight loss results - 1. Believing that you need some magic diet, plan, pill, 5. Not eating enough protein to build muscle instead of fat. Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired Does this describe your life? You come home from work - tired and stressed. The house is a mess. You plop down your bag of fast food and clear yourself a place to sit down in front of the TV and proceed to mindlessly stare at the screen and eat the ‘food' without a thought. That's the pattern for most people. You think that you're tired from too much work, when in reality- you're tired from that habitual pattern you've developed. Let's take a closer look - Foods high in fat take a lot of energy for your body to digest. All available resources are sent to the digestion system. So you feel sluggish. There were few if any nutrients in the food you ate, so the workers (your body parts) are running with no fuel. Healthy cells are not being replenished. Invader cells are poised and ready to take over as soon as the healthy cells are too weak to fight. Because you are not moving and getting some exercise to help deliver oxygen to those overworked body parts - they're struggling. Since there's nothing in the piles worth keeping, your body will work to try and move the garbage out - but there's too much. Kind of like the snow we had this last winter in the northern hemisphere. There was no place to go with it, so the piles continued to get bigger and bigger. But without heat (exercise & nutrition) to help melt it (fat) - it will continue to sit there and grow. Since all available resources are being used to deal with the fat and sugar overloads, your other body functions will start to suffer. You might notice that you aren't thinking very clearly, or that you're having a little more trouble breathing, or that your eyesight is getting worse, or that you're feeling depressed. Most people just shrug and attribute it to just getting older. It's all just a natural flow of things, right? Don't buy it! Fix a great tasting fresh meal in 20 - 30 minutes. Then take your time and enjoy it. Then go take a walk, or walk the dog, or play with your kids, or clean the house. Just get moving for a little while. Try it for a week and see if you don't have a ton more energy! Yes, you'll have to force yourself in the beginning. You'll also notice that you're thinking better, you're skin is looking better, you're sleeping better, and you're not as depressed or stressed out. Hmmmm. Force yourself to live. Avoid Being a Diabetes Statistic You're right to be concerned. Diabetes is not just your body's inability to process sugar. That is only the start. As overloaded body parts start to break down, you are a candidate for many other serious illnesses. Imagine this... You own a company that bottles water from a very special waterfall. The crew is out there day after day collecting and bottling water to send around the world. Everything runs smoothly. All is great. One day, the water flow coming down from the waterfall starts to increase from a heavy rainy season. Your offices, you plant, your storage facilities, and your truck fleet are all in danger if the flow is not kept at a certain level. The crews must work longer and harder to collect more and more water or your entire company will float away. The crews work day and night for days, but the water still isn't slowing down. One by one, the workers start to drop from fatigue. Each day, there are fewer workers, and the ones who remain are weaker and cannot keep up. Eventually the inevitable has to happen. It is the same story within your body. Your kidneys, liver, heart, veins, arteries, and so on - work overtime to deal with the overload of sugar coming in. You might even think that you don't eat many sweets. Surprise! Sugar is all around us. It's in fruits. Potatoes, pasta, and many other foods - convert to sugar. It's always been that way. But now - Most of your packaged foods and drinks, and snacks, and ‘sweets', and even diet foods, and vitamin waters, and energy drinks - all contain high fructose corn syrup. Is it any wonder that obesity and type II diabetes are on the rise? Here are some tips to help you deal with sugar overload - Ditch the packaged foods, fast foods, and pop. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat small amounts throughout the entire day to keep your sugar levels constant. Eat dessert right after dinner when there's food in your stomach to avoid big sugar spikes. Some research suggests that eating foods with vinegar, and drinking green tea also help reduce sugar spikes. Did you notice that I never said give up Chocolate? It's the packaged foods and drinks full of corn syrup that are causing most of the problem. Love Your Heart Heart disease is a big label for a bunch of diseases including high blood pressure, clogged arteries, strokes, and heart attacks. It used to be believed that these conditions were caused by eating too much fat, not getting enough exercise, eating too much salt, or having too much stress in your life. They are finding now, that while all of those things can contribute, the biggest problems are 2 fold - Inflammation caused by foods that irritate your system, such as too much fat, too much sugar, glutton sensitivity, casein (a chemical in milk) sensitivity and other food allergies; and Vitamin Deficiency. The center for Disease Control estimates that 92% of the American population has a nutrient deficiency of some type. So when you take the typical American diet, high in fat, sugar and salt, and add less exercise, more stress, and vitamin deficiency - your body doesn't stand a chance now, does it? So the battle cry became - eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and eat a whole lot of fiber and whole grains to help clean the toxins out of your system. How many Brillo pads can you eat before your system starts to get irritated? Now we have another whole host of problems as the body literally swells up. Your arteries are inflamed. Your joints are inflamed. Your body is on sugar overload. The fat deposits are accumulating in the arteries that are already sore. And at the same time, you're not getting the nutrients your body needs to fight off the abuse. The good news is, it's fairly easy to stop the process and start to heal - especially if you start right away before too much damage is done. Learn to eat a balanced diet of real foods and make sure you are getting the nutrients your heart needs to perform at it's best everyday. That doesn't mean tofu and soy burgers! If it did, I'd be really sick by now ;-) Cut out the packaged and fast foods, and make a real effort to eat 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Take your vitamins! Get some exercise everyday. That could mean taking a walk, walking the dog, cleaning the house, playing with your kids, golfing, anything that gets you moving! Make your home cozy and comfortable - a place where you can actually relax and rejuvenate. Take up Yoga, or a hobby to help you distress. We weren't meant to work and worry all of the time. Even if you start with just these few small steps, you'll start to reverse the process! Cancer - Decreasing the Odds There are a bajillion things that cause cancer that you are exposed to
every single day. You eat, drink, breath, or otherwise come in contact
with hundreds of things that given the right conditions, can turn
into cancer. Finding the Fountain of Youth How well you treat your body shows in your face - and there's no amount of beauty products that will change that. Oh sure, you can get botox. How crazy is that? Inject yourself with poison that actually paralyzes your facial muscles. Or, you can wait until it's bad enough that you need cosmetic surgery. Or, you can take the easy route. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Fruits especially for your skin. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which are probably the most important thing for keeping your face young. Fruits have a chemical called pectin which is also essential in building your skin. Drink juice - I drink a glass of orange juice, and a glass of cranberry juice everyday just as an extra boost to keep my skin looking younger and keep my immune system stronger. Green tea is a wonder. Not only does drinking it give you the benefits of antioxidants, but if you pat the tea bag on your face (after it's cooled of course), it tightens your skin. And green tea has a calming effect too - great for your mood. Get enough sleep. When you're sleeping, your body is busy at work repairing itself. Make sure you give it enough time to do the job right! Exercise helps keep you blood flowing to all of your important parts. It helps deliver oxygen. It helps you burn fat and build muscle instead. It helps you keep your weight under control. It doesn't have to be at the gym. There are plenty of ways you can get more movement into your life - take a walk, walk the dog, play with your kids, garden, clean the house, golf - just get moving! It'll keep your whole body looking yournger ;-) Take your vitamins! Use age appropriate skin care. Don't use things that are drying. Once you've starting eating more fruits and vegetables, you'll find that your skin problems start to fade away. Use a daily moisturizer, and a soothing eye cream or gel. Even if you're young - start now. Take care of that skin. It's what you have to show people everyday. Click Here if you want a younger, thin, healthy, disease resistant body >>> |
